The past two weeks have really flown by for us. We have all transitioned back to our school schedule/routine very smoothly. Everybody is really enjoying school!!! We are not even having trouble with bedtime!!! I guess the kids are wore out by the end of the day that they are not putting up much of a fight.
I mentioned in my last post that Kate has a new "big girl" bed. She started diving out of her crib a few weeks ago. I was hoping the first fall would have scared her enough to stop her from trying to get out, but she did it again the next day. Her crib was then unsafe so we had to get her a new bed. She has done great in her new bed. We do have to lay down with her until she is asleep, but she is staying in bed through the night. I do miss being able to lay her in her crib and her putting her own self to sleep, but this is working out okay for now.
Luke has enjoyed Kindergarten so far. He is excited to go in the mornings. He has met some friends and really likes his teacher, Mrs. Hall. He does have some trouble paying attention and being still, BIG SURPRISE!! If he can learn when the appropriate times to be silly, he will do just fine. He also does not enjoy coloring. He really likes recess and lunch!!
Luke had a school emergency this week. He tripped over a chair leg going back to his desk and fell and hit his mouth on a desk. His teacher assured me he was just walking and not being silly. He hit one of his upper teeth and loosened it and also cut his lip. The nurse called me and asked me to come pick him up. When I got there she told me he may need some stitches in his lip. I thought she was just being cautious. His lip was cut deep but it had stopped bleeding. I was more worried about the tooth he hit. I called the dentist, and he said to bring him in. I stopped by the neighbors house to see if she would pick Rachel up from school. She looked a Luke's lip and said he needed stitches. I was still in denial. I thought the dentist might be able to put a little dermabond on his lip and we would be good to go.

When we got to the dentist, they x-rayed his teeth and I asked the hygienist about his lip. She said she had seen worse that did not need stitches. I was relieved. Well, the dentist took one look at Luke and said, "he needs stitches in that lip!" He looked at the tooth that was hit and said there was not any nerve damage that he could see but that could show up later, and he may have some damage to the permanent tooth. The damage, if any, to the permanent tooth will be a discoloration that can be fixed once it comes in.

After he was done examining Luke, the dentist made some calls to find someone to sew up Luke's lip. He told me I wanted an ENT (ear, nose, and throat doctor) or a plastic surgeon to sew Luke up because the cut was on his face and crossed the lip line. Dr. Miller, Luke's dentist, called the ENT on call with Medical Center Hospital and asked if he wanted to see Luke in his office or in the ER. It was decided Luke would not voluntarily let Dr. Elam, the ENT, put stitches in his lip, so we were to meet him in the ER. Dr. Miller said this meant Luke would be taken to surgery to have his lip fixed, and we would possibly have to stay the night in the hospital.

There were so many questions going through my mind at this point. What about Rachel and Kate? How would Rachel get to school in the morning? Is his lip really bad enough to have surgery? Will Chris be able to fly in for the surgery? I have not mentioned Chris is at work in Ft. Stockton two hours away! On my way to get Kate from preschool, I tried to call Chris but he did not answer because he was on a flight. I called my Mom, but she did not answer at home or on her cell phone. I got a hold of my Dad, but he was in Ft. Worth. I finally got a hold of Grandpa Steve who came as soon as I called. My Mom came as soon as she could after she got the message. It worked out Chris was going to be at the hospital because he was flying someone into the hospital where we were going!!

We left for the hospital as soon as Grandpa arrived. We were in and out of the ER in a flash. Chris had a room waiting for us. They called the ENT when we arrived. They said he would be there in 15 minutes. I was still holding out hope that the doctor would not think it was necessary to do surgery, but he took one look and off to surgery we went. Luke had to have three stitches and dermabond. Three stitches sure does not sound like much, but if you think of the size of his lip it was more than I thought he would need. We arrived at the hospital at 5:30pm, Luke had surgery, went to recovery, then to a room, ate dinner, and we were discharged by 9:00pm. Now that is fast work for a hospital!!

He was home and in bed by 9:30 and went to school the next morning!!! His lip looks great now that the swelling has gone down. You can barely tell it was even cut!! It looks like a little scratch, but I guess it should after all that! I don't have any pictures of before and after because there was just too much going on before and the after is so small you would barely notice.
This is a picture of bath time last night. Luke talked me into letting him take a bath with the girls. He wore his swimsuit, so that made everything okay! They had a great time and made a BIG mess!!
Even though Kate cheered on the Tigers they did not win the game.
We visited with Great Grandma Dena on Sunday before we went home. It was a beautiful day and the kids enjoyed playing jump rope with their Grandma.
