We were all excited to plant our garden again this year. The kids had been asking about it for a couple of weeks now. I have been afraid we would still have another cold snap, so we waited. Well after school yesterday we went to the nursery and picked out a few plants, and this morning we planted them. My big helpers were Wade and Kate. Both were really into it.
Wade is ready with his gloves on. Mister BIG hands!!
Kate picked a strawberry plant. Last year I think our strawberries lasted two days. It was just too hot. This year we planted them in the front flower bed. Maybe they will get a little more shade there and have a better chance.
Kate adding top soil to our planter beds.
Wade raking out the dirt. He looks like a pro.
Rachel and B helping plant. Rachel picked a bell pepper plant to take care of.
Wade playing in the dirt.
This is all the help I got from Luke. He planted one of the tomato plants.
Kate planting cucumbers.
Our little garden all planted. We have three tomato plants, cucumbers, squash, bell pepper, and I planted some sunflower seeds too. I hope we get as lucky with the tomatoes as we did last year. We planted three varieties this year. We have cherry, grape, and Roma. We will keep our fingers crossed!!!
We also found this little guy in the planter bed. Both Kate and Wade wanted to hold it. I was a little surprised.
He was looonnng. I buried him back into the dirt before they broke him into.

Just look at the farm kids, such fun and a WORM to boot, yuk, but they are good for the soil. Looks good. We still have peas to plant toward end of this month. Our tomato plants are so tiny, I may buy some larger ones, just can't Midland outdo Buna. Luke just did not wish to get dirty.
Luke had a friend over. He did not want to be bothered. I am sure our little patch of dirt will not outdo yours!! Yours is MUCH bigger. How many cucumber and squash plants does one need to have plenty for us? We just got one each because I don't think we have enough room. May need another planter box next year!!
301Squash and cucumber plants require a lot of room, maybe 3 each, I never plant just one of anything. Our garden does not look very good right now, sure slow, but pinto beans are appearing to do well.
